Please join the Ontario Heritage Trust, in partnership with The Nation Municipality and its Heritage and Culture Steering Committee, on June 26, 2026, at 1 p.m. as we unveil a provincial plaque to honour the Proulx Cheese Factory. The plaque will be permanently installed following the ceremony.
This new plaque joins the almost 1,300 plaques across the province that mark milestones in the story of Ontario. These plaques commemorate the remarkable people, communities, structures and events that helped shape this province.
The Proulx Cheese Factory is a distinct example of the family enterprises that used to dot the landscape of the former Caledonia Township. It is considered a rare example of its kind for its pivotal role that cheesemaking played in Ontario’s rural areas over a century and a half ago. Today, The Nation Municipality proudly upholds its agricultural roots, and cheesemaking remains one of its famous trademarks.
